Looking Ahead and Back

My Day isn't only for today. The day picker lets you look ahead to see what's coming, so a monthly inventory count or a quarterly filing doesn't take you by surprise, and look back to see what got done on a past day.

Move between days

The day picker sits in the control row at the top of My Day.

  • Click the ‹ or › arrows to step back or forward one day.
  • Click the date button (it reads Today, or the day you're on, such as "Fri, Nov 6") to open a calendar and jump to any date.
  • To come back, click Back to today at the bottom of the calendar.

The header changes to name the day you're looking at, and a short note under the controls explains what kind of day it is.

The day you're on is part of the page's web address, so you can bookmark or share a link to a specific day.

Looking ahead

A future day shows two kinds of rows:

  • Work that already exists: to-dos due that day, and any task someone has already started early. These work like they do on today.
  • Scheduled work that hasn't been created yet. SOPHIE predicts these from each Standard's schedule, using the same rules as the morning run: your roles, your working days, your space's hours and holidays, time off and fill-ins, and tasks that move off non-working days. The note reads "Scheduled work, predicted from each procedure's schedule. Nothing here has been created yet."

A predicted row has a dashed clock in place of the checkbox, because there's nothing to tick off yet. You can open the Standard it comes from, but you can't complete, reassign or change the space on it.

Start future work early

If you want to get ahead, say to do Thursday's supply order on Tuesday, click Start now on the predicted row. SOPHIE creates the real task. It stays filed under its scheduled day, but you can now work on it and complete it. You'll see "Started. It is on your list for that day now."

Only the person the work belongs to can start it. A manager viewing someone else's day can see the predictions but can't start work for them.

How far ahead you can see

Predictions reach 30 days ahead. Beyond that, the note reads "The look-ahead reaches 30 days. Beyond that, only work somebody has already created shows here." You'll still see to-dos and any tasks already created for those days.

note

For Round Robin and Workload Standards, a prediction shows for everyone in the role, because who gets the turn isn't decided until the day itself.

Looking back

A past day is shown as a record: "This day has been and gone — it is shown as a record, so nothing on it can be changed from here." You can see what was done and what wasn't, but you can't tick, take or reassign anything on it.

A task belongs to the day it was due, not the day it was finished. If you completed Friday's task on Wednesday, it shows as done on Friday.

Deadlines that can't move

When a regulatory or hard-deadline Standard is due for you in the next seven days, the My Day card on your Home page shows a red line, for example "2 deadlines in the next 7 days that cannot move." Click See the first to open My Day on the day the first one falls.

Good to know

  • Pick up new tasks and the "needs a space" banner only appear on today.
  • Viewing a teammate's day works on any date. It's read-only either way.
  • A prediction can change. If someone edits the Standard's schedule, changes your roles, or books time off before the day arrives, the look-ahead updates to match.
