SOPHIE includes a built-in AI assistant that helps your practice create procedures faster, find operational gaps, and focus on what matters most. Think of it as a knowledgeable team member who has read every dental practice management book and is ready to help.
What the AI can do for your practice
SOPHIE's AI capabilities are woven throughout the platform. Here is a summary of what is available and where to learn more.
Generate SOP drafts
Instead of staring at a blank page, describe the procedure you need and SOPHIE writes a complete first draft. You provide a title, select the relevant roles and department, and the AI produces a structured SOP with steps, safety notes, and best practices tailored to dental offices.
The generated content is dental-specific. If you ask for a sterilization procedure, the AI knows the instruments, the CDC guidelines, and the common steps involved. You review and edit the draft before submitting it for approval -- the AI gives you a strong starting point, not a finished product.

Refine specific sections
When editing a SOP, you can highlight a section and ask the AI to improve it. This is useful for clarifying instructions, expanding a step with more detail, adding safety warnings, or adjusting the tone for a different audience. For example, you might highlight a paragraph about patient communication and ask the AI to make it more empathetic, or select a technical section and ask for simpler language.
You stay in control of the document while the AI handles the wordsmithing.

Identify missing SOPs with Gap Analysis
Gap Analysis compares your current SOP library against best practices for your practice type and highlights what is missing. It looks at your practice profile -- size, specialties, team composition -- and recommends procedures you should have documented but do not yet.

Surface prioritized action items
The Fix List (Action Items) uses your workspace data to surface what needs attention. It looks at acknowledgement rates, overdue procedures, gap analysis results, and team performance trends to generate a prioritized list of recommendations. Each item explains what the issue is, why it matters, and links to the relevant SOP or metric.

Enabling AI features
AI features are controlled at the workspace level. A workspace administrator can turn them on or off from Settings > AI Settings. When AI is disabled, all AI-dependent features are hidden from the interface.

AI preferences
You can customize how the AI generates content for your practice. Set your preferred tone, terminology, and style so generated SOPs match the voice your team is used to.

AI feedback
When SOPHIE generates content, you can rate the output with a thumbs up or thumbs down. This feedback helps improve the quality of future suggestions. If the AI produces something that does not fit your practice, your feedback helps it learn.
The AI chat
Navigate to SOPHIE AI in the sidebar to open the conversational assistant. You can ask questions about your SOPs, get recommendations for improving procedures, request help drafting content, or ask for best practices in dental operations. The AI has context about your workspace -- your SOPs, team structure, and practice profile -- so its answers are specific to your situation, not generic.
Some examples of what you might ask:
- "What SOPs should I create for my front desk team?"
- "How can I improve our patient check-in process?"
- "What are the OSHA requirements for instrument sterilization?"
- "Help me write a procedure for handling insurance denials"
The chat is a good starting point when you are not sure where to begin or want advice before creating a new SOP.
