Inbox
The Inbox is your centralized notification center in SOPHIE. It collects everything that needs your attention into one place so you do not have to hunt through different pages to find out what happened.
What shows up in your Inbox
Your Inbox receives notifications whenever something relevant happens in your workspace:
| Notification type | When you receive it |
|---|---|
| SOP submissions | A team member submitted a SOP for your approval |
| SOP approvals and rejections | A SOP you submitted has been approved or rejected |
| SOP updates | A SOP you are assigned to has been updated and republished |
| Acknowledgement requests | A new or updated SOP needs your acknowledgement |
| Task assignments | A task has been assigned to you |
| Comments | Someone commented on a SOP you own or are assigned to |
| Mentions | A team member tagged you in a comment |
| Action items | New AI-generated action items need your attention |
| Team activity | Updates from your team members (completions, submissions, etc.) |
Inbox vs Activity
Your notifications are split into two sections:
- Inbox — Things that need your action: approvals, acknowledgements, mentions, and task assignments. These stay in your inbox until you act on them.
- Activity — Informational updates: comments on your SOPs, team completions, and status changes. These are for awareness, not action.
The badge count on the Inbox tab only counts items that need your attention, so you always know at a glance whether something is waiting for you.
How notifications progress
Each inbox item moves through three states:
- Unread (dot indicator) — You have not seen this yet.
- In Progress — You have viewed it but have not completed the action.
- Completed — You took the action (approved, acknowledged, replied, etc.).
For most notifications, SOPHIE handles this automatically. When you approve a SOP, the approval notification is marked complete. When you reply to a mention, the mention notification is marked complete. You do not need to manage notification status manually.
Mentions
When someone @mentions you in a comment, it appears as an actionable item in your Inbox — not just an activity update. SOPHIE treats mentions as a request for your input:
- The mention stays open until you reply to the comment thread.
- When you reply, the mention is automatically marked complete.
- If you have not responded after a while, SOPHIE sends a nudge email reminding you.
This ensures important conversations do not get lost in the noise.
Acting on notifications
Clicking a notification takes you directly to the right page with the right context:
- A SOP submission opens the SOP with the approval panel visible.
- An acknowledgement request opens the SOP with the acknowledgement tab.
- A mention opens the SOP with the comment highlighted in the panel.
You will see a colored banner at the top of the SOP describing what action is needed, so you never have to guess why you are there.
Notification channels
SOPHIE does not limit notifications to the in-app Inbox. You can also receive them through:
- Email -- Notifications are delivered to your email address. Useful when you are not actively in SOPHIE.
- Slack -- If your workspace has Slack connected (see Integrations), notifications post to your configured channels.
- Push notifications -- For desktop and mobile browsers.
Configuring your preferences
Go to Settings > Notifications to control which notification types you receive and through which channels. For example, you might want SOP submission alerts via email and Slack but keep comment notifications limited to the in-app Inbox.
Deep links
Notifications sent via email and Slack include deep links that take you directly to the relevant item in SOPHIE. These links work regardless of which workspace you are currently viewing -- SOPHIE routes you to the correct page automatically.
