Vision Map

The Vision Map is one page that says where your practice is going and why. It holds this year's revenue target, the values your team lives by, your Core Focus (why you exist and what you do best), your Target Market (the patients you're built for), the result your process delivers, and a 10-year, 3-year and 1-year picture of the practice.

It matters because everything else in Practice OS aims at it. The revenue target you set here becomes the Scoreboard's goal for the year, and your Quarterly Sprints are the projects that move you toward this year's picture.

Open it from Vision Map in the sidebar, under your space. Each space has its own Vision Map, and there is one for each calendar year.

Create this year's vision

If your space doesn't have a vision for this year yet, the page says No vision for {year} yet.

  1. Click Create {year} vision.
  2. SOPHIE creates it and opens it straight away in edit mode, so you can start filling it in.

Edit the vision

The whole page is edited at once:

  1. Click Edit vision at the top of the page. A banner reminds you that the annual revenue target you set here becomes the Scoreboard's ultimate goal.
  2. Change any section — type into the fields, use the Add … buttons to add entries, and hover an entry to remove it.
  3. Click Save vision to keep your changes, or Discard to throw all of them away.
caution

Nothing on this page saves until you click Save vision. If you leave the page while editing, your changes are lost.

Moving around the page

A row of tabs under the heading jumps to each section: Vision Map, Core Values, Core Focus, Target Market, Signature Result, 10 · 3 · 1 Vision and Quarterly Sprints. The highlighted tab follows you as you scroll. You can share a link to a section — the link opens the page at that section.

The sections

Annual revenue target

The first section shows this year's Annual revenue target as one large figure. In edit mode, type the amount (you can paste "$4,200,000" — SOPHIE ignores the symbols and commas).

  • If last year's vision had a revenue target, a chip shows how this year compares, for example "+12% vs $3,750,000 in 2025".
  • By quarter shows each quarter's actual revenue against its target, with a progress bar. Actuals come from the weekly numbers on your Scoreboard; a dash means there are no actuals for that quarter yet. A caption under the heading says where the quarterly targets come from — your Scoreboard's revenue metric, or an even split of the annual target.
  • The quarter rows appear once you've set an annual target.

When you save a new annual revenue target, SOPHIE updates the yearly goal on your Scoreboard's revenue metric for the same year and space to match, and adjusts its quarterly and weekly goals in proportion.

Core Values

The beliefs your practice lives by — the handful of principles that guide hiring, decisions and how your team treats patients. In edit mode, click Add value and give it a name. Three to five is a good number: enough to mean something, few enough to remember.

Core Focus

Your Core Focus is the filter for every big decision. It has three parts:

  • Purpose & niche — the two things that never change.
    • Purpose · Cause · Passion: why the practice exists. Get to the underlying purpose, not the service. There's a headline and a longer explanation.
    • Our niche: the one thing the practice does best — short, specific and yours, with a line on what it covers.
  • The focus filter — your day-to-day yes / no test, in two columns:
    • We lean in: kinds of work squarely in your niche. Add one with Add a focus.
    • We say no: kinds of work you decline, even when tempting. Add one with Add a no.
  • The filter at work — recent calls the filter settled for you. Click Add decision, write What was the call? and one line on why it was settled. Each decision is marked In focus or Off focus; in edit mode, click the marker to flip it.

Target Market

Who you're built for:

  • The List — your ideal patient, in one breath.
  • What defines them — a few "lenses" on the same patient, such as Demographic, Geographic and Psychographic. Click Add lens, name it, then Add trait for each trait.
  • Our Three Uniques — why this market chooses you. Click Add unique, name the differentiator and expand on it.
  • Where we reach them — where your best new patients come from. Click Add channel, name it (for example, patient referrals), add a short note and the share of new patients as a percentage. The bars are drawn against the biggest channel, so the shares don't have to add up to 100.

Signature Result

The unique outcome your process delivers to every patient, in a sentence or two. It sits alongside your Patient Journey, which is where the steps of that process are built.

10 · 3 · 1 Vision

Three horizons, from aspiration down to this year's prize. Each one ladders into the one below it:

  • 10-year target — The destination. Where the practice will be in 10 years. Aim aspirational.
  • 3-year picture — Where we're driving. What the practice looks like in 3 years.
  • 1-year prize — This year's bar. The rallying line for the year: what does winning look like? The card also shows this year's revenue target and a list of this year's goals.

In edit mode you write the statement for each horizon.

Quarterly Sprints

A summary of this quarter's sprints — how many there are and how many are complete, with each sprint's status. Click Manage all plays to open Quarterly Sprints. If there are none yet, click Add plays to start.

Good to know

  • One vision per space per year. Next January, create the new year's vision; last year's stays as it was and is used for the year-over-year comparison on the revenue target.
  • Anyone in the workspace can edit the Vision Map. There is no separate permission for it, so agree as a leadership team who keeps it up to date.
  • SOPHIE reads your vision. When you ask SOPHIE a question, she can use your values, Core Focus, Target Market and horizons to ground her answer.
  • Annual goals and measurables shown on the 3-year and 1-year cards are displayed here but not edited on this page.
